Eagles Compete at the UW-Parkside Ranger Open
KENOSHA, Wis. -- The women's and men's Judson Indoor track and field team competed at the UW-Parkside Ranger Open last Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The Eagles continue to improve in their third meet of the indoor season as the women placed fourth of ten teams, and the men placed fifth of eleven teams. The women finished with 58 points and the men finished with 58.5 points.
Leading the way for the Eagles were Judson throwers Jennifer Donnell, Alisha Barnaby, Andrew Allen, and Drew Talbot. Donnell and Barnaby took the top spots in women's shot put throwing 40' 2" and 38' 11.75" respectively for the first and second place finishes. Barnaby also took the top spot in women's weight throw with a recorded 49' 3.75" mark. Allen and Talbot put in top finishes as well with Allen going sixth (37' 5" mark) in men's shot put, and Talbot finishing seventh (35' 10.75" mark) in men's weight throw. The throwers combined for 33 of the women's and men's team points.
The Eagle runners were led by Julia Popenfoose and Tom Rohn. For the women, Popenfoose produced a third place finish in the women's 5,000 meter with a time of 20:07.59 for six points. Rohn turned in a second place finish for the men's 400 meter dash with a time of 51.66 for ten points. Robert Bruns and Daryle Worley rounded out the men's 5,000 meter with fourth and sixth place finishes with finish times of 16:37.83 and 17:05.85 respectively. Marcus Hilding also took home a sixth place finish in the men's 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.72.
Other notables included Dan Becker in men's pole vault with a height of 12' 11.5" good for a third place finish, and Stephan Galloway in men's high jump with a height of 5' 7" good for a tie at third place.
Coach Popenfoose added, "We had some nice performances Saturday and are looking forward to getting all our middle distance runners on the track. Our field event athletes have gotten off to a strong start. We are off next weekend and this two week stretch of training will have a major bearing on how our team develops during indoor season."
