Eagles Win Conference Semi-Final Match
South Bend, IN - The Judson University Eagles secured a hard-fought victory in the conference semifinals, overcoming Olivet Nazarene University with a final score of 4-2 to punch their ticket to the championship round.
The Eagles established an early advantage by clinching the doubles point through strong performances across the lineup.
At the top flight, the duo of Brayden Kopp and Florian Koppitsch battled to a 6-4 win over Paul Saleh and Chatton Haws, while Julius Fortun and Nicolas Donoso solidified the lead with a 6-3 victory at the number three position. The second doubles pairing of Joshua Bavich and Brock Dawson saw their match remain unfinished at 5-3 once the doubles point was decided.
Moving into singles play, the depth of the Judson roster proved decisive in a series of grueling matches. Julius Fortun provided a swift contribution at the number six spot with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 win over Adam Hartford. The middle of the lineup required significant resilience, as both Nicolas Donoso and Florian Koppitsch were pushed to three sets. Donoso showed immense composure at the number three position, rallying from a set down to defeat Lucas Latil 2-6, 7-5, 6-2. Koppitsch followed suit at the number four spot, outlasting David Sanchez in a 6-0, 5-7, 6-1 marathon to help secure the team victory.
While the Tigers found success at the top two singles positions with wins from Chatton Haws and Paul Saleh, the Eagles' overall consistency allowed them to clinch the match before the number five singles contest between Joshua Bavich and Keenen Haws could reach its conclusion.
With this semifinal win behind them, Judson University now prepares for a high-stakes showdown against Holy Cross College in the conference final.
