Huntingtin, IN - The Judson University men's tennis team began its 2025–26 season on Saturday with a road matchup against nationally ranked No. 20 Huntington University. Playing on the Foresters' home courts, the Eagles competed hard throughout the afternoon but came up short in a 6–0 decision.
Doubles play gave Huntington the early lead. At the top spot, Joshua Bavich and Brayden Kopp dropped a 2–6 result. On court two, Nicolas Donoso and Cesar Otondo Villafan were unable to break through in a 1–6 match. At No. 3 doubles, Brock Dawson and Florian Koppitsch delivered Judson's most competitive doubles effort, keeping the set close before falling 4–6.
In singles, Judson continued to push but could not turn the momentum. At No. 1, Koppitsch battled well in both sets before falling 4–6, 5–7. Donoso followed at No. 2, testing his opponent with solid baseline play but dropping a 4–6, 2–6 contest. On court three, Julius Fortun faced steady pressure throughout and came up short 2–6, 0–6.
Javier Sanchez fought to extend rallies at the No. 4 position, settling into the second set but finishing with a 1–6, 3–6 score. At No. 5, Kopp's match ended prematurely due to retirement while trailing 0–5. Bavich rounded out the lineup at No. 6 in Judson's closest singles match of the day. After narrowly dropping the opening set in a tie-break, he stayed close in the second but was edged 6–7, 5–7.
Although the Eagles were unable to secure a point in their season opener, the match provided valuable experience against a nationally ranked opponent. Several close sets, including Koppitsch at the top of the lineup and Bavich at No. 6, showed the team's competitive potential as it looks ahead to the rest of the fall schedule.
