Fauchet-Poli/Pillai Doubles Advance To Quarterfinals; Veltkamp Advances to Singles Round of 16 At ITA Regionals
Notre Dame, IN. The Judson University Men's Tennis Team had good showings at the ITA regionals this past weekend at the ITA NAIA Men's Central-East Regional Championship hosted by Holy Cross College.
In doubles, Mathis Fauchet-Poli and Neill Pillai took down a pair of St. Francis players 8-3 in the opening round prior to defeating a pair of Olivet Nazarene players 8-5 in round two. The run would end in the quarterfinals with an 8-2 defeat to a Cardinal Stritch duo. Joshua Bavich and Max Fortun took down a pair of Olivet players in the first round prior to losing to a Cardinal Stritch tandem in the second round.
In singles play, Hugo La Hei, Fortun, and Alex Veltkamp made it past the opening round. La Hei won his opening round match against an Olivet foe 6-4, 6-2 prior to falling to a top-seeded Holy Cross player 6-0, 6-2. Fortun won his opening match against a Univerity of Health Sciences and Pharmacy player 6-1, 6-0. Veltkamp took down a Missouri Baptist player 6-0, 6-0 to set up an all-Judson round of 32 matchup between Fortun and Veltkamp. Veltkamp was the better of the two Eagles in the match with a 6-2, 6-3 victory. Veltkamp then had a hard-fought round of 16 match against a Cardinal Stritch player in the round of 16, losing 4-6, 5-7.
Judson is now done for the fall season and will resume play in late February.
