Another Good First Quarter Not Enough For Eagles
Defiance, OH - After an extended week of practice due to their opening Thursday night game, Judson was on the road again against the Defiance Yellow Jackets. For the second straight game, the Eagles played a solid first quarter that saw them hold a lead up until the midway point of the second quarter.
The Eagles had two opening quarter touchdowns that had them out front 13-10. The first was a Marcus Freeman two yard rush. The other was a five yard pass from Freeman to Grant Alexander Jr.
However, the tide turned midway through the second quarter when Defiance was able to score twice before half to push ahead of Judson for the game.
In his second start, Marcus Freeman was solid going 27-40 for 231 yards, and two touchdowns. Freeman also added the rushing score.
Grant Alexander was able to find the endzone twice, but his yardage was perhaps down slightly from his normal production line that he has established over the last year. Alexander was held in check with five catches for just 35 yards, and two scores. His second score was another 5-yard catch in the early parts of the 4th quarter. Alexander now has four touchdowns in the first two games of the season.
The big receiving day belonged to Cassidy Whitaker, who had nine catches for 107 yards.
On defense, both Nick Curry and Bryden Miller recorded double-digit tackles on the day. Judson was able to connect for six tackles for loss, however the Defiance offense proved to be to much.
The final score saw Defiance double up JU with a score of 40-20.
Judson will now turn to their home opener on Saturday the 13th with a home game against the NAIA #6 ranked team, Indiana Wesleyan.
The Eagles have played well to start in both contests thus far, and in front of the home crowd, will look to keep that momentum going. JU's next step is to now maintain these good starts into the second half. The Eagles will really need to control the ball this week, and keep the #6 ranked team on the sidelines as much as possible.
